Tuesday morning I went to work prepared to be showered with the last of the baby gifts that I would wash and put up before the baby arrived. John joined me at work and we partied for a couple hours and then I finished up a couple things at my desk and then I met John at my doctor's appt at 3:30pm. We were scheduled for an ultrasound and from the moment the nurse put the wand to my belly I knew something wasn't right.
There was very little amniotic fluid and she was unable to measure it or the baby. Using the best measurements she could she estimated fluid level of 2 (it should be over 10) and the baby's size at 4lbs 12 oz. which would indicate that her growth had slowed down.
The nurse was very sweet and explained that we probably would need to deliver the baby soon etc. We didn't really believe her. We asked if we would come back in the morning to be induced. She said Dr. S is probably not going to let you go home. Ok.... just bring in Dr.S.
Dr. S in all his infinite wisdom said we do not know why amniotic fluid decreases. I may have been leaking slowly for the past week or the baby stopped producing fluid through urine possibly because the placenta was starting to break down due to my Lovenox injections. Either way the baby needed to cone out as soon as possible and he would induce the next morning so I would have been off my Lovenox for 24 hours.
The nurse walked us straight over to Labor and Delivery and I was in a gown in the bed by 4:45pm. And our journey began...
Congratulations to you both. It's been a long road and you deserve it.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for baby Ellaree.
